PM+: Voices from the field discuss the future of PM+ in the MENA region

The PS Centre is proud to host a webinar as part of the STRENGTHS project that focuses on scaling up psychological interventions with Syrian refugees.

Join this webinar to learn about the scalable psychological intervention Problem Management Plus, from three experienced professional PM+ trainers and practitioners, as they discuss the use of PM+ in the MENA region. They will share from their rich experiences and focus especially on training and supervision and the recent shift to remote and online delivery.

Speaker biographies

Mr. Mahmoud Hemmo is Palestinian, born and lives in Germany. He has an M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology and Gender Studies from the University of Zurich and provides cross-cultural, psychoanalytic psychotherapy mainly to patients from the MENA region in Arabic, English, French, German, and Swiss-German. Mahmoud is a global mental health trainer and has vast experience as a Master trainer and supervisor of PM+. He is involved in multiple research projects and is currently completing his Ph.D. focusing on ‘PM+: Improving training and ensuring quality in psychological support among lay-helpers’.

Rita Maydaa is a Lebanese licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. Rita has a Master degree in Clinical Psychology and has undergone a two-year clinical training program at the American University of Beirut-Medical Center, during which she specialized in adult psychotherapy. Rita provides mainly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy. She has several years of experience working with individuals from different age groups and diverse backgrounds (including residents and refugees) in the context of international NGOs and in private practice. Rita is also a PM+ trainer and supervisor.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin Uygun is a psychiatrist working both as a clinician and academic in the field of mental trauma. He is a full-time lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University in the Trauma and Disaster Mental Health Master's Program and has been involved in more than 15 research projects on mental trauma and immigrant mental health. Dr. Uygun is an acclaimed author and academic and scientific presenter. He is trained in numerous schools and methods of therapy, including CBT and EMDR and the scalable interventions PM+ in Groups and Self Help Plus. He has also worked with WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF and SPARK, to help develop and implement training programs.
