Psychological first aid (PFA) is a powerful way of supporting someone or a family in distress. It involves paying attention to the person’s reactions, active listening and if relevant, practical assistance to help address immediate problems and basic needs. Learning psychological first aid skills, empowers volunteers and staff to help others and learn how to apply the same skills to their own lives. The Dari and Pashto versions include an introductory guide and training materials for basic PFA skills. The material was translated and used by the Afghan Red Crescent Society.
