Eastern Africa Member States Workshop on Integrating Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Preparedness and Response

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) together with the Ministry of Health of Kenya and partners, hosted the workshop on Integrating Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Health Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Plans for East Africa Member States from 14 to 18 November 2022. The workshop brought together ten Member States from the Eastern Africa Region, delegates from WHO AFRO and EMRO, UNICEF, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as experts in mental health and emergency preparedness and response.

Carmen Valle-Trabadelo, Co-Chair IASC RG on MHPSS in Emergency Setting, facilitated this one-day session on MHPSS coordination, for participants to familiarise themselves with existing MHPSS coordination mechanisms and standards, and to be able to put into practice these elements when identifying the preparedness and response needs of each of the countries attending.
