MHPSS Programmes Monitoring and Evaluation Training in Copenhagen

The IFRC PS Centre is offering an in-person training for MHPSS focal persons and other staff members involved in monitoring and evaluation.  The training will cover the full programme cycle of activities including assessments, project/ programme design, developing logical frameworks/ theories of change, indicators, means of verification and monitoring and evaluation more broadly.

The training also helps participants to further their confidence and competences in monitoring and evaluation and draws on the Monitoring and Evaluation Guidance Note, Indicator Guide, and M&E toolbox produced by the IFRC PS Centre as well as the IASC Common Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for MHPSS Programmes in Emergency Settings.

The training is highly interactive and problem-based with experiential learning used as a teaching medium.  Participants will engage in practical exercises, group work, role plays and use case studies from past or current programmes to aid their learning.  Participants must be fluent in written and oral English to be able to engage actively in the course and to pass the training successfully.

 

Training objectives

  • Participants are familiar with the IFRC and IASC Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework’s for mental health and psychosocial support interventions.
  • Participants practice using the M&E tools in an interactive learning environment.
  • Participants build their skills and knowledge in MHPSS assessments and in setting up appropriate M&E systems.
  • Participants know how to choose and adapt indicators and means of verification which are relevant to monitoring and evaluating MHPSS interventions in different settings.

 

Target groups

The training is for MHPSS focal points (from National Societies and the IFRC), and staff involved in project management and monitoring and evaluation processes from the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, and other humanitarian organisations.

Dates, deadlines and other important information

Face-face (in person) training 15 - 18 November 2022 (4-days) from 09:00 – 17:00hrs CET at Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Fælledvej 12, Entrance C, 2200 Copenhagen, Denmark.  The training will likely finish earlier on the 4th day.

Tea, coffee and snacks are provided during breaks and lunch is served daily.

The IFRC PS Centre hosts one dinner, additional dinner costs must be borne by the participant.

Please note that certificates of participation will only be issued provided a trainee has been present 80% of the time, taken active part in preparation and facilitation of the sessions, demonstrated understanding of the topics, been active throughout the training, and has taken on assignments as instructed. A short appraisal for participants from the Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies is sent to their National Society after the training.

Participants are expected to

  • Have knowledge of implementing community-based MHPSS programmes in any settings.
  • Have a basic understanding of the programme management cycle and terminology related to monitoring and evaluation.
  • Actively participate in all sections and tasks related to the training.
  • Have a background in education, social work, psychology, psychiatry, mental or public health, humanitarian or developmental sciences, or similar fields.
