Older Adults and Mental Health: Preventing the risks of an ageist society in Europe

It is now possible to register to attend the webinar on Mental Health of Older Adults, how can we prevent the risks of an ageist society in Europe? The webinar will be held on the World Mental Health Day, October 10.

The event is organised by the PS Centre, Red Social Innovation, and EY Fabernovel. Ea Suzanne Akasha, Senior Technical Advisor, Mental Health & Psychosocial Support at the PS Centre will provide an introduction at the beginning of the webinar.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated restrictions triggered a 25% increase in prevalence of anxiety and depression worldwide. These events remind us how important it is to define health through a state of physical, mental and social well being. Older people, who were considered at risk during the pandemic were particularly isolated, making it difficult for them to maintain social bonds or physical contacts, leading to dramatic mental health consequences.

Over the course of this 45-minute conference, the Red Social Innovation team will release a publication that has been conceived in partnership with the IFRC Psychosocial Centre and EY Fabernovel on this very specific topic, highlighting good practices coming from all over Europe and from a variety of actors.

The publication and webinar centre and answer the following questions: How can we ensure healthy and decent ageing for all? How to fight ageism and stigma around older adults? How to foster intergenerational bonds to fight isolation?
