The Spirit of Hong Kong Awards is an annual event that honours the achievements of remarkable people whose endeavours may otherwise go unnoticed in the region. PS Centre Technical Advisor Dr. Eliza Cheung and the Psychological Support Service Volunteer Team from the Hong Kong Red Cross branch won this year’s Spirit of Team Work Award. The team has about 230 volunteers, providing psychological support service for those affected by disasters or emergencies in the city and overseas.

Their services include personal or group emergency support, education, psychological support hotline and outreach services. Over the past five years, the team has helped 36,553 people.

Dr. Eliza Cheung: “Since the set-up of the service in 2004, we had responded to various larger and smaller scale of crises in the city. Our presence and support to the affected communities are crucial and it’s like some small light arises in the darkness that provides care and hope to them.”

On behalf of the IFRC Psychosocial Centre, congratulations to this inspirational team and thank you for your selfless work to provide and expand psychological services for those affected by crises and disasters in this region!
