Call for participants: Learning from shared experience in humanitarian assistance
A pilot distance learning project to research how humanitarian workers learn and improve
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) invites you to join an online course open to all humanitarian staff and volunteers who have deployed in at least one emergency operation.
Delegates returning from the field often share lessons learnt, whether informally or in formal reports. The course will offer a unique opportunity for humanitarian workers from all over the world to share their stories, experiences and insights.
How do you get better at doing your job? In the humanitarian sector, much of the learning that matters is informal, grounded in experience, and leveraged through professional networks. How did you fill the gap left by your formal training to get the job done? In this course, participants will work together to gain understanding of how they improve and grow, in order to do more and do better for affected people.
This course is part of an IFRC research project set up by the Geneva Secretariat with support from the American Red Cross, with a specific focus on capturing learning and preparation for Field Assessment Coordination Teams (FACT) and Emergency Response Unit (ERU) delegates. The project is supported by the University of Illinois Scholar team.

Who should enroll
Humanitarian staff and volunteers with at least one emergency operation experience from the Red Cross Red Crescent or another humanitarian organization.
Added value of this course
Discover how others learn and adapt to the challenging roles and tasks, contribute to the IFRC’s ability to learn from key humanitarian personnel and use this knowledge to improve the IFRC’s global surge and capacity building efforts.
