New online course will train you to help the most vulnerable children
From September a six weeks online learning course will train people on how to offer the best possible care, protection and support of unaccompanied children fleeing or migrating across and between countries.
Why do children flee or migrate alone? What risk do they face on the way? And how can we best take care and support unaccompanied and separated children on the move?
These are some of the questions you will get to understand at the new online course with specific focus on migrant and refugee children fleeing on their own. The course starts 2 September 2019 and registrations is open.
The title for the course is Caring for Children Moving Alone: Protecting unaccompanied and separated children and is developed by the innovation Centre in Scotland, CELCIS, with help from The FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University.
16 leading international humanitarian and children’s rights organizations – including the PS Centre – have been involved in the process of this course bringing expertise and experience from young people, volunteers and academics.
It will be available in four different languages; Spanish, Arabic, French and English.

Through six weeks of training you will get to understand the risks and vulnerability separated refugee and migrant children are facing and how to best respond to the children’s circumstances.
You will explore the principles outlined in the United Nations Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children and discover how suitable care can contribute to the protection of children.
The course is free and available for professionals and volunteers who offer care, protection and other support to children and young people fleeing or migrating across countries alone.
