Migration and MHPSS Advisor

The PS Centre is looking for an experienced migration and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) advisor with strong research and innovation skills to join our international team in Copenhagen at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support (PS Centre)

We are excited to offer the right candidate the opportunity to advise globally on the intersection of MHPSS, crisis management and migration and integration.

Using both your leadership skills and ability to facilitate collaborative design processes, you will play a leading role in the successful implementation of our international, large-scale research and innovation projects. You will design, develop, test and communicate on innovative approaches that will be used to strengthen the quality and scale of work on MHPSS within migration and integration globally.

Key tasks and responsibilities 

  • With several local project partners, develop and pilot innovative materials on integration and MHPSS in time and on budget
  • Manage and contribute to the design and drafting of an innovative resource to support practitioners in their integration of third country nationals in the EU
  • Lead and contribute to large scale, multi-site piloting and consultation with responsibility for the development and delivery of methodology, data collection, analysis, process evaluation and reporting
  • Develop adaptation guides that allow lessons learned implementation and scale-up of innovative integration practices
  • Contribute to the PS Centre’s internal and external communication primarily as conducted through research and innovation projects, incl. building EU wide and global stakeholder and practitioner networks, facilitating knowledge exchange in digital and physical fora, and contributing content to communication materials, briefing papers and other publications
  • Support overall project management of largescale research and innovation projects with partners across the EU and Middle East, incl. ensuring good collaboration between partners, ensuring timely execution of work with project staff and partners, minutes taking, maintaining project works spaces and contact lists, and drafting of in-depth technical and managerial reporting to demanding donors
  • Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by Head of Centre.  Ad hoc assignments are part of our daily work and we try to cover for each other when colleagues are away on missions or holiday.

Experience and skills

  • Relevant educational background in migration and integration studies or other academic education
  • Minimum 5 (five) years of relevant work experience in the field of migration, integration, and MHPSS
  • Experience with migration to the EU and working knowledge of the policies and practices of integration of third country nationals into EU
  • Strong experience in conducting project-based work, incl. experience with EU funded research and innovation projects (currently Horizon2020) project implementation with proven ability to deliver on time and budget
  • Strong skills in design thinking, participatory innovation and co-authoring processes
  • Proven skills in designing and implementing structured testing (e.g. field testing and piloting) and systematic desk studies
  • Proven skills in developing and drafting written tools and materials for various practitioners/people working in the field
  • Experience in one or more of the following: working in the field of MHPSS, working for or volunteering with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, or knowledge of crisis management
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office package
  • Aptitude for learning and using new digital tools and databases
  • Advanced knowledge of written English is required; knowledge of spoken Arabic, French, Spanish, Scandinavian, Russian and/or Chinese is an added advantage.

The Federation Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support (PS Centre) is a delegated function of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, hosted by Danish Red Cross. It aims to improve psychosocial well-being through operational assistance, capacity development of National Societies, competence development of staff and volunteers, knowledge generation and knowledge sharing, and communication and advocacy.

Employment Conditions

Danish Red Cross is the legal employer and the duty station will be Copenhagen. The assignment will commence on 1 May 2020, or as soon as possible, and end on 31 December 2021, with possible extension.

Salary level and benefits will be in accordance with the Danish Red Cross’ Staff Agreement with AC/HK. The position is classified for salary between DKK 41.300-47.600 per month incl. pension, and according to qualifications and experience.
