“We need to learn how to provide better care and support to people living with mental health conditions and illnesses in our communities, as the majority of people affected by such challenges are unable to access formal support through public systems.” – PS Centre Technical Advisor Pernille Hansen

The PS Centre is hosting a one-day online orientation on Community Based Mental Health Care on Wednesday, 9 February 2022 from 9 am to 3 pm (CEST).

This one-day orientation explores the mental health gap and current strategies and research being used and recommended to address this. It will also discuss what can be done within families and communities to promote mental health, how to support people living with mental health conditions and how lay persons can be trained and supervised to deliver low-cost, low-intensity, scalable psychological interventions in a stepped care approach. Stepped care is a person-centred, staged approach to the delivery of mental health services, that includes a hierarchy of interventions—from the least to the most intensive—matched to the individual’s needs. Scalable psychological interventions are ones that can be offered to many more people than regular psychological treatments, and reach is therefore scaled up.

Learn more about Scalable psychological interventions before the orientation event by listening to the 25-minute podcast with our Technical Advisor Sarah Harrison in our podcast series Heartbeat of humanity.
