On 10 October, we observe World Mental Health Day, an international day for global mental health education, awareness and policy advocacy. This year’s theme – as announced by the World Federation for Mental Health – is Mental health in an Unequal World.

In the days around World Mental Health Day’ a series of events will mark the importance and increased awareness of MHPSS.

Please find below an overview of what is happening in the days to come.

5 and 6 October:
Global mental health summit: Mind Our Rights, Now!

On 5 and 6 October 2021, the French Minister for Solidarity and Health, Olivier Véran, and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, will host the “Mind Our Rights, Now !” global mental health summit in Paris. The summit will be attended not only by high-level policy makers, international organisations, health professionals, experts and civil society actors, but also by foundations and renowned academics, all of whom aim to strengthen international efforts that support mental health, promote respect for rights and foster worldwide innovative experiences.

Climate grief, hope and action

As part of the Planet:Red virtual summit from 12 to 14 October, Psychosocial Centre Technical Advisor Melanie Powell and Innovation Lead Pablo Suarez from the Climate Centre will conduct an interactive workshop about how the climate change significantly impacts the psychosocial wellbeing of individuals and communities.

A high level panel will discuss the inequalities around access to MHPSS services, but also the similar challenges that countries face.
